Hurricane Matthew, North Carolina Aftermath
Heading out on some business errands a few days ago, I had a very surreal moment travelling through an area hit hard by the flooding from Hurricane Matthew in North Carolina.
The facilities and buildings at McLaughlin Ribbon Awards were spared with only minor wind damage, easily repaired. I cannot describe the level of thankfulness that we feel for this. However, many of our neighbors only miles away were not so fortunate. As I was driving, I could see along the tree line how high the flood waters had risen; a very telling moment of realization. And, still beyond that I saw piles of entire households and belongings just stacked because they were destroyed; not just one house, but miles and miles of them. It made me think how that in less than 24 hours so many peoples lives were changed. Especially when I saw people gutting their houses when only yesterday they were sitting down just eating dinner or maybe watching television.
Massive reliefs efforts are being organized and it is amazing amid all the craziness of the world, how tragedy can bring a community together. I’ve seen many reports and videos of animal and people rescues, one of which was a video of a horse being rescued from flood waters.
We continue to keep our local folks and our neighboring states in our thoughts and prayers.
